DURANT — The Kingston vocal music department posted an impressive showing at district contest last week, bringing home 71 medals
The high school performers garnered 51 total medals at the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association District Vocal Music Solo and Ensemble Contest, scoring Superior ratings on the majority of its entries. Jacy Germany, Regan Stephenson and Lauren Johnson led the way with five Superior ratings each, and Jessica Kretzchmar and Olivia White nabbed four Superior medals each. In all, 20 high school performers earned at least one Superior rating.
Middle school vocalists also fared well, winning Superior ratings for eight solos and one ensemble. Director Gay Lynn Allen said every medal was well deserved.
"They worked so hard for this," Allen said. "They put in many, many hours of their own time practicing and improving, and it shows in the results."
High school performers who earned ratings of Superior (often referred to as "I") will now have the opportunity to compete at the state level April 17-18 at Shawnee. Allen said with continued improvement, all have the ability to earn the coveted state Superior medals.
"I know they can do it," Allen said. "The talent is there — they just have to keep working."
"It's another example of the achievement Kingston kids are capable of," McAdams said. "I continue to be impressed with our students in all areas, and music is certainly no exception."
